Recently got back from Otafest 2014. Now to lightroom all the things and then I will upload. Got some great pictures of Quark, some ridiculous pictures of Mikasa, and barely any of Alice cuz ugh Sunday no energy to take photos (also it was rainy and grey). I'll do a shoot for her sometime this summer as I just finished the skull for the back of the dress (yes it lights up - I'll be posting a brief tutorial for it later) and built a pepakura vorpal blade - credit to JouzuMania for the pattern.

I did enter Alice into the Otafest Cosplay Showcase and placed Runner-up Journeyman again this year (as I did for Tsuruhime last year). But this year Yaya Han was a judge, which was actually quite nice because she really places emphasis on good sewing skills (more my forté than prop-making). Also she flipped my seams and asked for a photo (yah I know she loves the Alice games; I've seen her Red Queen cosplay and was like oh shit maybe I chose the wrong costume to enter woops, but I guess it worked out for the best).

Now to do some much-needed everyday sewing (I have a shit ton of dresses to take in cuz I'm disproportionate) and then start on fem-Noiz for Athon.
After that, I decided instead of just oggling over it for eternity, I'm gonna take the next year to build/sew this Tsukiji Nao design of Anri from Adekan. I've found that rather than doing many less-extravagant costumes and having trouble finishing them all on time, I'm going to instead focus on one or two costumes and do them very thoroughly, prop/weapon and all. When I completed Tsuruhime and her bow I just felt the most satisfaction I ever have in a costume and hence, it's my favourite one to wear. I'd like to keep that feeling.

So it's that time of year again. That comes every 4 years. When I turn into some sports-crazed patriotic maniac that never sleeps and can tell you detail for detail everything that happened for Team Canada each of the 18 days. Yep, that's right; it's the Winter Olympics. MY FAVOURITE FUCKING TIME OF LIFE.

Really really excited for Edmonton Expo this year! Not just because it's grown in size and cuz Ron Perlman will be there ajdkflja;lsd, but also cuz I get to participate in a lip dub CMV! I've done one of these before with a couple friends just on our own, but never with a real videographer and at a con, so I'm incredibly excited. I've been wanting to see a lip dub one done in our neck of the woods and I'm really honoured to be a part of it.

As for cosplays, for the lip dub CMV on Sunday I'll be wearing my Royal Suit Alice again. I'm hoping to have the skull done for the back for then (actually going to Michael's to get the stuff for it tomorrow), and for Saturday, Jeggis and I will be debuting our genderbent Free! cosplays. She'll be going as fem-Rei and I'll be fem-Rin. Since there's no "official" versions of these outfits, we're having some fun and using our imagination (for once ) in making them. I decided to play up the shark motif a lot more, so look for pics from that in the near future!

So Athon came and went for another year. Decent con, though there's always organisation issues (and don't get me started on the incredibly uncalled-for attitude of most of the staff) but I actually had a blast thanks to being able to meet up with so many people that I haven't seen in a while, getting to participate in a CMV, and also sporting a recently finished costume (always a nice feel).
